About Us

The concept of My Favorite Quilt Shop was begun in 2007.  Three quilters sat and talked about the need for a quilt shop that customers could call "home" - a shop that was more than a place to buy fabric but a place to come for quilt classes, personal help and friendship as well.  As much as we like to think we can plan our lives we all know that just doesn't happen very often and as it turned out two of those three original planners were needed in other aspects of their lives when the plans for MFQS started to materialize spring of 2010.

I called the number on several "for lease" signs - all kinds of venues: shopping center spaces, store/apartment house combinations, etc. but in the end I knew the little gray ranch house on Route 40 was what I was looking for... with it's quaint but more contemporary layout - and that great space on the lower level for our classroom!

Several months and much planning, buying and renovating later and My Favorite Quilt Shop was opened on August 2nd, 2010.  Almost 300 people came during that first week and since then we meet new customers every day!  On September 1st we sent out our first e-mail newsletter and on October 1st we sent out our first mailings of our Birthday Gift Certificates - our customers' reward for coming in and signing our guestbook and telling us they want to be considered part of the MFQS family. 

Through our first autumn in business we've continued to put in place the classes and activities that were part of our original plan to make quilters feel at home.  Try us out - come to "Open Sew" all day every Friday...  come and use our classroom space and enjoy the comaradarie.  Bring your machine and a quilt you're working on or push together our classroom's tables to help sandwich your quilt or sit and hand sew on your binding and talk to whoever shows up that week to share their quilting adventures.
